I'm leaving on a jet plane!

Hello everyone! I'm generally not a blogger, but I really want to be able to share my experiences with my friends and family at home (and I want to hear all about your lives too!). For those who don't know, I'm moving to Ecuador as a Peace Corps volunteer for the next two years. The process has been long, but I'm finally leaving on June 14th. A small part of me didn't really think I'd make it all the way here when I first sent in my Peace Corps application in August, but I made it through the essay writing, the interview, the medical exams, and most of all waiting to hear where I'm going. I'm so excited to finally be taking off! I can't wait for the next adventure!

I leave for 3 days of staging in Washington D.C. on June 14th. There I will meet up with all the other volunteers going to Ecuador (probably around 60). On the 17th we will fly to Ecuador as a group where we will have three months of training in Cayambe (a couple hours outside the capital of Quito). In august I will officially become a Peace Corps volunteer and begin my project! I'm not sure of the specifics of exactly where I will be or what I will be doing. I have been assigned as a health extentionist, which basically means that I will be teaching communities about health issues (likely maternal/child health, nutrition or HIV/AIDS education). I will keep everyone posted!

I am so thankful for all of my friends and family who have supported me along the way and am going to miss everyone so much!
